Product Description

UltraLife ASTM D395 & D575 Tensile-Compression Fixture (CCS-D395CC)

This fixture handles two related but distinct rubber property tests on one piece of equipment: compression set under ASTM D395 (both Method A, constant force, and Method B, constant deflection) and compression-deflection behavior under ASTM D575, again in both its specified-deflection and specified-force procedures. Covering four test methods across two standards with a single fixture cuts down significantly on the equipment a compression-testing lab needs to keep on hand.

Built from solid A2 tool steel and precision CNC-machined on four axes, the plates and spacers are industrial chrome plated after grinding, giving a parallel surface profile that CNC work alone can’t guarantee. The plates run thicker than typical fixtures specifically to resist warping from repeated heat and cold exposure, and that extra material also means the fixture can be restored later rather than replaced outright. Spacers are square along their long axis, so any of the four sides can be used as the contact face, extending service life before replacement is needed.

The design mounts the plates on four counter-acting shafts (two opposing pairs) that equalize compressive force from both directions rather than relying on a single-sided push. It adapts to any tensile-compression instrument meeting ASTM E4 force-verification requirements, and works inside an environmental chamber for elevated or subnormal temperature runs. Each unit ships individually serialized with certification to D395 and D575, NIST traceability, and ISO 9001/17025 compliance. Custom finishes (TFE, TefLok Titanium) and 304L stainless construction are available on request.

UltraLife ASTM D395 & D575 Tensile-Compression Fixture: Quality Manufacturing Fill 118 Copy 1 Created with Sketch.

UltraLife ASTM D395 & D575 Tensile-Compression Fixtures are manufactured from homogenous, solid, high carbon content A2 tool steel. Each undergoes precision grinding and multi-axis, precision CNC (Computer Numerical Control) machining to exacting requirements, after which the plates and spacers are industrial chrome plated.

Precision grinding ensures a parallel surface profile of the plates and spacers. CNC machining provides ultra-close dimensional tolerances and synchronized vertical application of applied force. The quality of materials, design, and engineering serve to provide the highest quality test outcomes possible, over an extended service life.

The plates are thicker than comparable fixtures, withstanding the deleterious effects of exposure to elevated, subnormal temperatures, and distortive forces. This also accommodates later restoration, adding too yet further the fixture’s cost effectiveness. The spacers, which are critical to producing accurate test determinations, are square on the longitudinal axis allowing them to be positioned, on any of their four sides.

The machine adapters, connectors and the mechanism, are of hardened steel are individually matched to assure smooth performance and unparalleled operation. The plates are mounted to four (two equally paired) counter-acting shafts. This unique design equilibrates the horizontally opposed compressive forces.

UltraLife Tensile-Compression Fixtures are individually serialized and include certifications to ASTM D395 & D575, traceable to NIST, and compliance with ISO 9001:2000 and ISO/IEC 17025.
